Wating for The Last Minute...
Dear Guidance Guy,
I have a really bad problem with procrastination. I always put everything off until the last second, then I'm hitting myself wondering why I didn't do the projectearlier. It makes my life so much harder than it needs to be. I'm going into high school and I know I need to stop this habit. What should I do?
Always waiting,
Procrastination Boy

Dear P.B.
Many high schools give you a planner at the start of the school year so you can map out your assignments and tests. This is a good way to help you study, do your projects in a timely fashion and get ready for tests. If your school doesn't give them out, get a good one at a Staples or Office Max or similar store. Break your projects down into small parts and set due dates for each one. This way you won't find yourself way behind.
Of course what this also means is that you make the decision that school work is important to you. Without that, all the planners in the world won't help. First, decide this is what you really want. Then ask someone you trust for help in keeping up. A parent, brother or sister or friend are good choices. It just needs to be someone who will stick with you and celebrate all the success you have. And in return you can do good things for them. Maybe they can use your help with something you're good at.
Something tells me you're going to do great. You're already thinking ahead, which is a good sign.
Have a great year,
The Guidance Guy
