Wants to Attend 8th Grade Graduation
Dear Guidance Guy,
I have a problem in school. I have this aid who gets on my nerves! I keep on saying to myself only a few more days until school ends, but I'm tired of it. Today in school I finally had it. I flipped out and was totally disrespectful to the teacher and the aid. I didn't apoligize because its not going to mean anything to them. This happened just a few weeks when I told her I'm sorry and promised her it won't happen and look it happens again.
I am not going to be allowed to graduate on stage because I already had a warning and I have a really strict principal and let me tell you once my teacher tells her I was actring up she is going to make sure the rest of my 8th grade year is horrible. I pretend to my friends it doesnt matter, but I can't pretend to myself.
Please help me,
Wants to Graduate

Dear Wants,
The first question I'd ask you is if you're really sorry. It looks to me like you are. If so, you can apologize. I agree that they may not believe it won't happen again, and you shouldn't promise that. But if you're really sorry about what you did, go ahead and let them know. Even better: you can even put it in writing.
I don't think the principal is out to get you. Believe me, she has better things to do with her time than to try and make you miserable for two weeks. No doubt she's busy getting ready for the end of the school year. If you're worried about what your teacher and the aid will say, you can go to the principal first and let her know what happened. Don't try to make things better or worse than they were. Just tell her the complete and honest truth.
Don't be surprised if your teacher and principal have more forgiveness than you think. Adults don't want to make kids' lives miserable. They want respect, just like you do. But it's possible they may not let you go through graduation. I hope they do, because it looks to me like you've done a lot of growing up recently. No matter what happens, do the right thing and be proud of yourself for trying to make things better.
Best of Luck,
The Guidance Guy
