Closer Friends
Dear Guidance Guy,
Hi! I want to be able to become closer friends with some really nice girls, but I'm not sure how to hang out without it being awkward. What should I do?
Thanks!!

Dear Me,
You can ask if you can sit with them at lunch or some other public place. If they are nice girls, I'm sure they'll say yes. You can also focus in on one girl who seems nice and see if she will introduce you to the rest of the crowd.
The best way to hang out without feeling awkward is to not try too hard. Spend a lot of time listening to them in the beginning. Ask questions about them and be interested in what they do. Everyone has a favorite topic to talk about: themselves. If you do this, they will probably want to know about you. Then you can be yourself.
The Golden Rule applies here: treat them the way you want to be treated. That's the quickest and best formula for making new friends (and keeping old ones).
Thanks for your letter,
The Guidance Guy
