Awesome Attitude at Aisle Ten

Dear Readers,

I was out shopping at the supermarket before dinner. My wife usually does this job but asked me to go, since she was making dinner (it's much safer to send me shopping than to put me in the kitchen without supervision). I picked out the items and headed to the check out area. Things seemed to be moving quickly at Aisle Ten, so I headed over.

Right away I noticed something different about the young man who rang up my order. Usually the cashiers look down or look at the items they scan, then only look up when they ask you for money. This guy greeted me with eye contact and a big smile. He really seemed glad to see me. I had a lot of meat and he stopped and made sure it scanned at the right price.

When the payment was finished he thanked me for coming in and told me to "have a great day." This was so much different from the "have a nice day" we usually get, when it sounds like the clerk is reading from a card. He talked to me like I was a friend and he'd look forward to seeing me again.

On the way out of the store I asked for the manager. The look on his face told me he thought I was there to complain about something, So he was surprised when I told him about the great attitude on Aisle Ten's cashier. A big smile came over his face.

What did it cost me to appreciate great service? Absolutely nothing. But I bet the mood in that store got a lot better for the rest of the day, starting with the manager and working it's way down. Isn't it cool how one person has the power to make that kind of change in the people around them?

But more than that, I'm excited for my new friend on Aisle Ten. Because I bet he has that same enthusiasm even when he's not working for minimum wage. He probably has it in school, which makes his teachers want to do their best for him. And he probably has it with his friends, which makes him very popular.

He may even have it with his family, who want to be around him and do great things.

But even if no one else around him returns his good mood, he still has it. He controls the way he presents himself to the world. And sooner or later, people notice and want to be just as good back to him.

It's a cycle of success, and it got my attention today.

Who are YOU touching with your attitude? Is it something you are proud to share?

If not, do you need to wait for someone to show you a good attitude, or can you start something good on your own?

Show the world just how good you are. I promise...people will notice. Even before they do, you'll feel better about yourself.

Have a Fantastic Day!
The Guidance Guy
