Newspaper Needs Ideas

Dear Guidance Guy,

Our newspaper club is now working on the last issue for the year. Many members of the club have dropped out, and the people that are here just don't have the spark they used to. Our last issue stunk, and we want this issue to be FANTASTIC.Do you have any ideas for things that people would really want to read about? What would you like to see in a school newspaper?Help me. Help the club!

Thanks,Stuck as Your New Mercedes in Quicksand

Dear Stuck,

It's funny you should ask this question...I was the editor of my high school newspaper a long long long time ago. (Did I mention it was a long time ago?)

Something that was popular then (and still is) are surveys of students on different topics. What are your favorite music groups, movies, etc. Hand out surveys in the cafeteria during lunch time and publish the results in the newspaper. You'll need someone to sit at a table and of course the school's permission.

It's also interesting to interview important people in the school. Maybe the principal or a popular teacher would be willing to answer questions and it could become a story.

And of course opinions are always popular. It could be on a topic about school or something outside of school.

The best ideas are the ones that a member is REALLY interested in. If someone has something they badly want to write about, let them go with it! That could turn into your most intersting story.

Hope That Helps,
The Guidance Guy

P.S. If anyone has any other ideas for a hot newspaper story, send them here!
