How To Study?

Dear Guidance Guy,

I'm really not good in science and math, so I'm failing science. I asked for extra credit but my teacher said no. He told me to do better on my quizzes. I try but still fail.

Help!

Dear Desperate,

You may be studying, but you may be studying the wrong stuff, or the wrong way.

I agree that extra credit isn't the answer, unless the extra credit has to do with the material you were supposed to learn in the first place. What I recommend for you is to sit with your teacher before or after school. Show him HOW you study, not just what you study. He may be able to give you some good suggestions on how to get ready for the tests and quizzes. It could be something simple, like flash cards or reading the material aloud. Or it could be something completely different.

My guess is if you show your teacher that you're REALLY interested in doing better, he will find ways to help you that you haven't thought of. After all, almost all teachers want their students to succeed!

Best of Luck,
The Guidance Guy
